Daydreamer

Daydreamer 10x 8 acrylic on gessoboard
This is based on a photo of one one my favorite models, but not intended to be a likeness. It was a quiet moment when she appeared to be lost in thought. I wanted to capture that faraway look and my aim was to achieve an expressive and painterly image. Below are some progress shots.

Initial sketch on toned gessoboard

Placed Darks

Mid tones and some lights added

More midtones and finer details added

Refining and trial background

New background and Final Touches...Done!

  1. I really enjoyed seeing your process and admire the end result very much, Helene.
Her eyes really say so much about her don't they because I can tell you like this person and made sure they captured her personality. Have a lovely day.

  2. Thank you, Julie. Your comments always warm my heart. As you see, it's not a true portrait. I wanted a more dreamy and less intense gaze, so took liberties with the likeness.

  3. Beautiful! The eyes have it. Like how you cropped it.

    1. Thank you, Carlene. I really liked your barn in winter - so evocative of that time as the season turns.
