Cool Seat

10x8 wm oil on gallery wrapped stretched canvas
Fresh off the easel...now at Martins Gallery in Bracebridge.  A similar smaller (6x6) painting based on the same reference photo sold last winter at a charity art sale. It was enjoyable to revisit the subject and have a bit more space.

Bliss

Bliss 16x20 oil on canvas
Bliss is my attempt to capture that feeling of complete abandon when water lifts and supports us so completely and so effortlessly.
After several months of being away from my easel, I'm pleased to be back painting some new pieces.  Hopefully, some of my blogging buddies are still checking in on me now and again.
Bliss, along with other new paintings will be on display this summer at Martins Framing and Gallery in Bracebridge.

Daydreamer

Daydreamer 10x 8 acrylic on gessoboard
This is based on a photo of one one my favorite models, but not intended to be a likeness. It was a quiet moment when she appeared to be lost in thought. I wanted to capture that faraway look and my aim was to achieve an expressive and painterly image. Below are some progress shots.

Initial sketch on toned gessoboard

Placed Darks

Mid tones and some lights added

More midtones and finer details added

Refining and trial background

New background and Final Touches...Done!

Sunshine

Sunshine 18 x 14 oil on stretched canvas  NFS
This lovely young woman came to interview me for a local magazine. As we chatted, I was captivated by how the sunlight just kissed her cheek and forehead. I asked if I could snap a few photos and perhaps paint her.  She agreed and this was the result.

Summer Solitude

Summer Solitude 8 x 10 acrylic on stretched canvas  SOLD
Sun, sand, and and a bit of quiet solitude. A moment when all the sensual delights of summer are yours alone. This is another in my series of paintings that celebrate the joys of summertime at the cottage.

Seated Nude

Seated Nude 24 x 14 soft pastel on Canson paper  NFS
For a period of time I worked a great deal in pastel. This rather large classic nude was one of the pieces I've kept and it hangs in my studio.

Amber Eyes

Amber Eyes  10 x 8 soft pastel on Canson paper  SOLD
We are finally having some summer-like weather, and it's playing havoc with my daily painting resolution. To disguise my procrastinator's embarassment I'm posting this vibrant little pastel. It sold in one of my gallery shows.

Figurative Study

Figurative Study 20 x 20 oil on stretched canvas  NFS
This was a figurative study done in preparation for a gallery show. As it turned out, I never ended up developing a more finished painting, but decided to keep the study.

Slipper Bath

Slipper Bath 20 x 16 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
I love doing these paintings of classic nudes that evoke an earlier time. Fortunately, my wonderful model can adopt a marvelous vintage look.

Red Settee 10 x 12 oil on stretched canvas SOLD
This small figurative painting features a vintage settee which seems to fit the model's circa-1920's look.

Morning Read

Morning Read 14 x 18 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
What a joy it is to snuggle in bed with a good book -- even in the daytime! One of life's small luxuries, I think.

Golden Moment

Golden Moment 16 x 12 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
As the sun moves low in the sky, we have the golden hours of the day. And so this painting -- golden light, golden hair, golden dogs -- altogether a golden moment.

Lyn

Lyn 20 x 16 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
This is a portrait commission done in oil. With her striking hair and warm skintones, she made a vibrant subject. I particularly liked the way the sunlight caressed the side of her face.

Black Lace

Black Lace 24 x 18 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
This is one of several figurative paintings I've done that feature this model. I liked the quiet serenity in her expression, and I enjoyed painting both the lace and the sheen on the satin gown.
