Cool Seat

10x8 wm oil on gallery wrapped stretched canvas
Fresh off the easel...now at Martins Gallery in Bracebridge.  A similar smaller (6x6) painting based on the same reference photo sold last winter at a charity art sale. It was enjoyable to revisit the subject and have a bit more space.

Taking Off SOLD

Taking Off 30 x 24 acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas

This is another of my paintings now at Martins Gallery for the summer.  At 30 x 24, it's larger than average for me, but I wanted the impact those dimensions would bring.  I was especially delighted when the gallery owners placed it in the window. Here in the tourist region of Muskoka, this time of year means kids at camp and families at lakeside cottages. "Taking Off" is meant to evoke the joy of summer at the lake, whether cottage or camp.

Here are some progress photos:

Petite Nude

Petite Nude 7x5 oil on stretched canvas
After working a great deal in acrylics, I'm getting back into the swing of using oils again. This is just a little nude, only 7 x 5, done in water-mixable oil on canvas.

Blue Mood

Blue Mood 16 x 12 soft pastel on Canson paper  NFS
For short time I worked in soft pastel, but rarely do so now. This is one of several small classic nudes done as studies. As you see, I was enjoying playing with complementary colors.

Black Lace

Black Lace 24 x 18 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
This oil painting will always be special to me. It was part of my first solo gallery show in 2009. It was also the image used on all the promotional materials, and the first piece to sell at the show. Today I'd likely paint it differently -- perhaps better, I'd hope -- but I'll always look back at it with much affection.

Summer

Summer 12 x 9 acrylic on stretched canvas
It's summer at the lake and nothing beats the wild abandon of leaping off a dock. Life at the cottage is all about joys such as this.

Leaping Into July

Leaping Into July  12 x 9 acrylic on stretched canvas  SOLD
This is a revised version of an earlier piece. It had been on hold for a prospective buyer, but is now available. To me it conjures up summer, cottage life, and youthful exuberance in a single joyous moment..

Odissi Dancer

Odissi Dancer 8 x 10 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
Done for a fund-raiser, this little dancer was great fun and so very colorful to paint. Fulfilling our purpose, she promptly found a buyer and danced off to her new home.

Demure 12 x 9 soft pastel on Canson paper  SOLD
This little pastel quickly sold, but I'm working on more small classic nudes in oil and acrylic.

Salon

Salon 24 x 30 oil on stretched canvas
At 24 by 30 inches, "Salon" is one of my larger pieces -- a traditional figurative in oil on stretched canvas. I used the complementaries of yellow and purple to provide a lush backdrop for a classic nude pose.

Slipper Bath

Slipper Bath 20 x 16 oil on stretched canvas  SOLD
I love doing these paintings of classic nudes that evoke an earlier time. Fortunately, my wonderful model can adopt a marvelous vintage look.

Red Settee

Red Settee 10 x 12 oil on stretched canvas SOLD
This small figurative painting features a vintage settee which seems to fit the model's circa-1920's look.

Cayenne

Cayenne 10 x 20 soft pastel on pastelboard  SOLD
This was a fun small work where I used simple strokes to suggest form rather than fiddle with details. I also wanted to push the values, to evoke a warm, languid feel. Somehow the title, "Cayenne" seemed to fit. This is an unframed soft pastel on pastelbord, with an image size that extends a bit beyond this photo to approximately 10" x 20".
